This page is for listing the many Cazenovia, Fenner and Nelson Veterans
that are buried in our designated Veterans Cemeteries.
So far I have info on a few Civil War veterans in southern cemeteries,
but I would very much like to obtain other info on all wars and all cemeteries.
If you have information on the burial place of veterans from Cazenovia,
Fenner and Nelson who are buried in our National Cemeteries, please
let me know
CIVIL WAR
Many Civil War soldiers lie in unmarked and undiscovered graves or
under stones marked "Unknown" in our many National Cemeteries. They
lie on or near the battlefields with names like Cold Harbor, Cedar Creek,
The Wilderness, not to mention the horrid prisons such as Andersonville,
Florence, and Belle Isle. Many died in hospitals and found eternal
homes nearby. Many were sent home to friends and family if their
bodies could be identified, recovered, or found.

War National Cemeteries

Florence Stockade, Florence, South Carolina
- Walker, William V., had
been a prisoner at Andersonville, GA, and some records indicate that he
died and is buried there. Shortly before he died on October 27,
1864, he and many other prisoners were transferred from Andersonville
to a newly built compound known as Florence Stockade in Florence,
SC. He is buried there in what has become a national
cemetery. Walker and others are listed in a small book called
"The Union Dead of the Florence Stockade" compiled by Rev. Albert H.
Ledoux. He lists his source for each soldier, and for William, he
lists "Rolls of Federal Prisoners of War who died in Confederate
Prisons, from Volunteer Organizations in Maine, Kentucky, and New York,
National Archives Record Group 249, entry 38." In Walker's
pension file Florence was stated as his place of death on October 27,
1864. (Much thanks to Sharon Workman, Great great granddaughter
of Walker.
